Ghana ยท May 2026
In May 2026, the WE THE WAVE team travelled to Ghana to film the first major chapter of the documentary.
Filming took place in and around Busua and Accra, bringing together stories from surfers, fishermen, young people and members of the local community.
The production also included conversations with researchers and ocean experts, including oceanographer PhD. Andrews Angyekumhene from the University of Ghana.
The Ghana shoot became an opportunity to explore how surfing can create community, connection and new possibilities, while also documenting the people who live and work alongside the ocean.

At the heart of WE THE WAVE are the people who give meaning to the ocean.
The film brings together different voices and perspectives, allowing each person to describe what the wave means to them.
Through these stories, surfing becomes a starting point for a wider conversation about community, opportunity, culture and our relationship with the natural world.
